JORDAN CONDEMNS ISRAELI BUILDING ON AL-BURAQ YARDS ADJUNCT TO AL-AQSA

       Amman 27 Shawwal 1434/ 3 September 2013 (MINA) – Jordan on Monday condemned Israel’s establishment of a platform in the southern area of the Buraq Courtyard in Al Aqsa Mosque complex, describing the measure as a “flagrant” attack against historical Islamic sites.

       Jordanian Minister of Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani called on the occupation authorities to remove the platform as soon as possible, according to the Jordan News Agency, Jordan News Agency, Petra report as quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

       He reiterated His Majesty King Abdullah’s and Jordan’s rejection of the so-called Sharansky compromise, which seeks to expand and raise the area adjacent to the Buraq Courtyard at the expense of other Islamic parts of Al Haram Al Sharif, the third holiest site in Islam, Petra reported.

        Momani underlined the government’s commitment to exert all diplomatic, political and legal efforts necessary to safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, warning against the repercussions of calls raised by settlers and radical Jews to attack Al Aqsa Mosque during Jewish celebrations.

      He renewed Jordan’s condemnation of the so-called Sharansky scheme which aims at supporting the expansion plan of the Buraq Square, and denounced Israel’s continued actions to demolish the remainder of the Magharbeh Gate.

        The minister stressed Jordan’s stance in exerting political, diplomatic and legal efforts to protect and care for Muslim and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem.

        Momani warned of Jewish settlers and extremists’ continued call to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the pretext of Jewish holidays, expressing regret over Israel’s disregard of international conventions and resolutions.

         The spokesperson urged the international community to pressure Israel to prevent such practices, which “provokes” Muslims and peace supporters across the world, according to Petra. (T/P02/E1)
