Jakarta Dialogue Urges Ulema Role in Afghan Peace

Jakarta, MINA – A high-level delegation of the Afghanistan High Peace Council (HPC) Tuesday attended a dialogue here with Indonesian Islamic scholars, Pajhlok Afghan news reported..

Led by Mohammad Karim Khalili, the HPC delegation has arrived here on a five-day visit from 20 to 25 November.

The delegation on Tuesday attended a dialogue with Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) organized by the government of Indonesia in Jakarta.

The meeting provided the HPC the opportunity to learn from Indonesia’s experiences and exchanged views on pluralism, tolerance, moderation and nation building as well as the role of ulema in conflict resolution to promote and build peace in Afghanistan.

According to the joint statement, both the sides acknowledged HPC’s as a leading Afghan body coordinating Afghan peace and reconciliation efforts.

The HPC highlighted the prominent role of moderate Islam in Indonesia which promotes Islamic brotherhood, nationalism and solidarity among human beings.

The meeting recognized the important role of Indonesia’s Islamic Organisation in promoting the principles of – establishment of Indonesia Islamic Centre, which included a public health clinic in Kabul funded by the government of Indonesia.

They acknowledged the meeting had been successful in providing an excellent venue for both the sides to exchange experiences, lessons-learnt and had successfully laid a solid foundation for future cooperation in the effort to attain a long lasting peace in Afghanistan. (T/RS5/RS1)
