INDONESIAN AMBASSADOR OPTIMISTS ON PALESTINIAN REUNIFICATION

Jakarta, 9 Jumadil Awwal 1435/10 March 2014 (MINA) – The latest Indonesian Ambassador for Saudi Arabia Abdurrahman Mohamad Fachir expresses his optimism towards Palestinian reconciliation under the joint government.

“We believe that the Palestinians to be united, we must not exacerbate the problems that can be muted,” he said when was asked about the existence of two governments in Gaza and Ramallah on Monday (10/3) in Jakarta.

Fachir sworn in as Indonesian ambassador to Saudi Arabia on February 14 and called on people not to exaggerate the differences, as the divisions will easily infiltrated and destroyed by the enemies.

Previously, Fachir served as a Director General of Information and Public Diplomacy at Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will leave for Saudi Arabia on 24 March. Graduating from Arabic literature department, he had also served as an Indonesian ambassador to Cairo before Hosni Mubarak was ousted in January 2011.

Fachir’s optimism  of reconciliation also supported by international  community as well as Indonesian people. “We hope the both parties, Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Fatah who controls the West Bank can unite for struggling Palestinian independence.

Before the Egyptian president Mohammed Mursi was ousted, Hamas and Fatah began an intensive meetings for joint government, following the massive Israeli aggression in December 2012 which made all Palestinian parties united against the occupation.

The meetings between the both parties held in several places including Gaza, with the arrival of Fatah officials to the besieged area for the first time since the feud happened following the 2007 elections won by Hamas, but not recognised by Fatah.

In the beginning of  March 2014, senior Hamas officials living in Egypt, Musa Abu Marzuq met the head of  Fatah parliamentary bloc, Azzam Al-Ahmad in Cairo to discuss a number of internal issues, particularly the reconciliation of both parties. (L/P03/P08/P04)
