INDONESIAN HUMANITARIAN ORGANIZATION MER-C SENDS FIVE VOLUNTEERS TO GAZA

Jakarta , 16 Rabiul Akhir 1435/16 February 2014 ( MINA ) – The Indonesian humanitarian organization Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) in February will send five volunteers to complete medical equipments in Indonesian Hospital (RSI). The construction of the RSI building has already finished.

One of the volunteers, Nur Ikhwan Abadi said on Sunday, the team led by Faried Thalib (the chairman of the RSI construction). Two Indonesia’s media reporters also follow the team. “We will coordinate with local government and to complete medical equipments,” he said.

Regarding the security in Gaza, Nur Ikhwan stated the city’s situation is so far unpredictable. “Everyone cannot surely stated that Gaza is safe today,” he said. However, he feels grateful that the Egyptian and local Gaza government finally let his team enter Gaza.

“Indonesian Hospital construction program undertaken by Mer-C becomes phenomenal and historical because it was done originally by Indonesian Citizens, ranging from the foundation, the process of construction and the supervision ,” Nur Ikhwan said.

In the era of the President Soeharto, Indonesia’s MER-C also built a mosque in Bosnia which known as Istiqlal Mosque. It makes Indonesian people proud in international communities because it was all done by Indonesians.

According to the engineer who leads the RSI construction, the financial contribution for the RS construction comes from the middle and low income level of Indonesians.

“Palestine was the first country recognizing the independence of Indonesia. It means we have moral responsibility to Palestinians because they now still under the occupation,“ Ikhwan argued.

The RSI still needs more support for providing medical equipments and it costs about Rp. 60 billion (USD 60 million) .

Meanwhile, Farid said, RSI is the prove of love from Indonesian people from Sabang to Merauke to Palestinians. “We thanks to all Indonesians who entrusted us in this mission, especially to the volunteers of Al-Fatah who have been working hard to finish the RSI,” he said. (L/P012/P04/E01)
