India Launches 104 Satellites on Board Single Rocket

ISRO launched on Wednesday 104 satellites onboard Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C37).

 
New Delhi, 19 Jumadil Awwal 1438/16 February 2017 (MINA) – The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched on Wednesday 104 satellites onboard Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C37) in a major historical breakthrough.

Indo Asian News Agency (IANS) reported quoting an ISRO official that 104 satellites including India’s earth observation satellite Cartosat-2 weighing 714-kg were launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The PSLV C37 also carried two nano-satellites of India in addition to 101 other satellites 96 of them belong to the US while each Israel, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the UAE owned one each.

The total weight of the 104 satellites on board the PSLV stood at 1,378 kg while the PSLV is 44.4 meter weighing 320 ton.

Quoting an ISRO official, the IANS reported “the Cartosat satellite is the fourth one in the Cartosat-2 series of earth observation satellites.

Already three are in the orbit and two more will be launched.

Once all the six Cartosat-2 series satellites are launched the Cartosat-3 series would begin.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated ISRO and the scientists for the successful launch of 104 satellites in one go. (T/RS05/RS01)
