Gaza, MINA – The Human Rights Institutions Association has strongly condemned Israel’s continued closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem for the second consecutive month, calling the measure “grave and unprecedented.”

In a statement issued on Sunday, HRIA said the restrictions imposed on Muslim worshippers represent the most severe measures since the occupation of Jerusalem in 1967. The organization argued that the closure is not merely a temporary security step but part of a broader policy aimed at consolidating control over the holy site.

HRIA stressed that such actions constitute a clear violation of the right to freedom of worship under international human rights law and amount to a systematic attack on religious sanctities.

The group also warned that continued restrictions could further escalate religious and political tensions in the region, especially amid what it described as a lack of meaningful international response.

Calling for urgent intervention, HRIA urged the international community to take concrete steps to halt the violations and ensure the immediate reopening of the mosque to Muslim worshippers without restrictions.

The organization further appealed to countries that are party to the Geneva Conventions to fulfill their legal obligations in protecting religious sites in occupied Palestinian territories. It also called on the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to include alleged violations related to Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem’s Old City in its ongoing case review.[]
