HAMMAD CALLS ON ARAB COUNTRIES TO SAVE GAZA

       Gaza City, 6 Dhul Qaida 1434/13 September 2013 (MINA) – Fathi Hammad, the Interior Minister urged his Qatari, Omani, and Sudanese counterparts to increase pressure for the blockade to be lifted.

       On cables to Qatari, Omani and Sudanese interior ministers , Hammad asked them to mediate Gaza crisis, pushing Egypt authorities to ease their restrictions measures against Gaza, Gazan Al-Ray reported as quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

        Since the Egyptian military had overthrown former president Mohamed Morsi, Egypt interim government started establishing a buffer zone in Sinai along the border with Gaza. It caved in the lifeline tunnels with Gaza , preventing the access of any type of basic daily needs to the people of Gaza.

        According to OXFAM the blockade has devastated Gaza’s economy, restricted freedom of movement, and has had severe negative impacts on the ability of ordinary people to access the essential services they need.

          The Egyptian military have continued to demolish the tunnels established by the Palestinians for smuggling the basic materials into Gaza. These tunnels have helped over the years people in the Strip to overcome the blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation forces since 2007. (T/P01/E1).
