Gaza, MINA – The Palestinian movement Hamas has denied any responsibility for an explosion that struck an Israeli armored vehicle in Rafah, southern Gaza, on Wednesday. It asserted that the blast occurred in an area under full Israeli military control.
The Israeli occupation military reported that an officer was injured in the explosion, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blaming Hamas. Hamas, however, stated in a release that the incident took place in a zone “fully controlled by the Israeli army, where no Palestinian is present or working.” It attributed the explosion to “war remnants” previously planted by Israeli forces.
“We bear no responsibility for this area since the implementation of the (ceasefire) agreement,” Hamas said, calling for pressure on Israel to uphold the truce and avoid fabricating excuses for escalation.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire, which halted a two-year conflict. Palestinian authorities have repeatedly accused Israel of violating the agreement, which was reached after a war that has resulted in over 71,000 Palestinian deaths and more than 171,000 injuries since October 2023.[]
