Gaza’s Disabled, Another Killed by Soldiers Laid to Rest

Ibrahim Abu Thuraya: Disabled Palestinian activist shot dead by Israeli troops in Jerusalem protest.

Gaza, MINA – Thousands of people participated in the funeral on Saturday of two Gazans, one of them disabled, shot dead by Israeli soldiers who opened fire at Palestinian civilian protesters near the border fence, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Ibrahim Abu Thuraya, who lost both of this legs in one of Israel’s wars on Gaza, was laid to rest in Shate refugee camp, while Yasir Sukkar was buried in Shajayeh, east of Gaza City.

A few hours before his death, and despite having no legs, Abu Thurayeh climbed an electricity pole to raise the Palestinian flag, eyewitnesses and journalists present said.

The protests were part of a call to demonstrate against US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Palestinians consider the east of the city, which Israel captured from Jordan in the 1967 war, as the capital of their future state. (T/RS5/RS1)
