GAZA IS DYING OF FUEL AND ELECTRICITY
Gaza, 15 Jumadil Awwal 1435/16 March 2014 (MINA) – The spokesman of Resources Ministry in the Gaza Strip, Ahmad Abu Al Umrain said the city has been suffering of the lack of power supply that can only meet a third of the total needs of its citizens.
It’s getting worse following the Gaza Strip’s power plant shut down Saturday due to the lack of fuel. Israel occupation closed a goods crossing after latest war between Israel and Jihad Islam, an Islamic resistance in Gaza.
“The cause of this electricity distribution cessation due to the closing of Erez border by Israeli occupation forces. The border is the only access of goods enter into the Gaza Strip after the closing of Rafah border by Egypt several months ago,” Ahmad Abu Al Umrain told Miraj Islamic News Agency (MINA)’s reporter on Saturday night.
According to him, Gaza’s suffering about 70 percent of its needs, which means the blockade area is currently only has a power supply as much as 30 percent left. It has an impact on the lack of electricity use in the Gaza Strip where Gazans used to get only four to six hours electricity a day.
The 1,8 million populated area rely on three sources of electric power, northern Gaza Strip receive electricity supply from Israel, the Gaza city under the power supply from the local company and the southern Gaza Strip gets power supply from Egyptian government.
Palestinian government in the Gaza Strip do not have any solution to deal with the crisis. The way out believed to be the only solution would be re-opening the borders, wether by Egyptian government as well as Israel.(L/P03/P04)
