GAZA HIT BY ISRAELI SONIC BOOM AIR RAID
Gaza City, 22 Ramadan 1434/29 July 2013 (MINA) – An Israeli F16 fighter jet has carried out a sonic boom attack on Gaza City, Monday morning (29/7), Gaza based news agency AlRay reported.
The attack calls to the Gaza citizens’ minds the time following the removal of Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip in 2005 under Israel’s ‘disengagement plan’.
Israeli military right after the pullout had set off this terrifying new tactic against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by letting loose deafening “sound bombs” that had caused widespread fear, induce miscarriages and traumatise children, according to Palestinian health ministry.
The military used air force jets to create dozens of sonic booms by breaking the sound barrier at low altitude, sending shockwaves across the territory.
The United Nations then demanded an end to such tactic, saying it causes panic attacks in children. The shockwaves have also damaged buildings by cracking walls and smashing thousands of windows.
Palestinians liken the sound to an earthquake or huge bomb. They describe the effect as being hit by a wall of air that is painful on the ears, sometimes causing nosebleeds and “leaving you shaking inside”, said The Guardian‘s Chris McGreal reporting from Gaza. (T/P01/P03)
