Brussel, 30 Rabiul Awal 1437/10 January 2016 (MINA) – EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini announced on Friday €100 million in humanitarian aid for the Libyan government as soon as it takes up office, Anadolu has reported.

Speaking at a press conference in Tunis held jointly with the head of the new Libyan government, Younis Al-Sarraj, Mogherini said that the security situation in Libya represents a “massive challenge” for the aid to actually get through.

“The Libyan people deserve peace, security and stability,” she explained. “I think all Libyans are exhausted of war. We hope that peace and stability are achieved with the new national agreement government”.Middle East Monitor (MEMO) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Mogherini said that her presence in Tunis was “important” and that she was “proud” to be the first one to announce support for the government headed by Al-Sarraj. She noted that she was content with the discussions conducted with Al-Sarraj regarding rebuilding government institutions and fighting terrorism.

According to Al-Sarraj, the reactivation of EU support packages has been agreed upon. He called for all Libyans to “come together in the face of terror for the sake of building the Libyan state.”
