EGYPT OPENS RAFAH CROSSING TODAY AND TOMORROW

Rafah, 6 Rabi’ul Awwal 1435/8 January 2014 (MINA) –The crossing between Gaza and Egypt, the Rafah Crossing, are being opened albeit only today and Thursday between 9 am and 3 pm.

The crossing was shut down by Egypt on the 27 December but is now going to opened again for two days, Palestine News Network (PNN) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

A researcher for the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Fadel Almzainy said, “The conditions in Gaza are extremely difficult and the government has to reconsider the Rafah border crossing from a humanitarian aspect.”

The crossing has been shot for most of December as well as 20 days in November Daily News Egypt reports.

“The rest of the border crossings are shut, [and] we hold the Israeli occupation responsible,” Almzainy stated. “Not everyone who wants to travel is able to travel,”

After the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July, Egyptian authorities have shut down the Rafah border crossing repeatedly. (T/P02/E1)
