EGYPT’S INTERIM PRESIDENCY LAMENTS ‘FOREIGN PRESSURE’

Spokesman for Egypt’s interim presidency, Ahmed el-Muslimani
Cairo, 30 Ramadhan 1434/7 August 2013 (MINA) – The spokesman for Egypt’s interim president, Ahmed el-Muslimani, has claimed that the “foreign pressure” on Egypt following the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi has exceeded international standards.

Muslimani was referring to a flurry of visits by American, European, and Gulf envoys aimed at mediating a stand-off with supporters of the ousted president.

Earlier, the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA), issued a statement in which it claimed that the international pressure may undermine Egypt’s sovereignty.

According to Arabtoday.net report quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA), the foreign pressure could “provide legitimacy to a number of personalities who incite violence and terrorism.” the statement said.

The ECFA called on foreign states to stop meddling in Egypt’s internal affairs, and leave the destiny of Egyptian people in their own hands.

The independent body argued that foreign officials were keen to visit Egypt since the ouster of Morsi due to their interest in the future governance of the country.

The council stated that Egypt would keep its doors open to the regional and international community, and called on Egyptian embassies worldwide to explain the recent developments in Egypt to their host countries. (T/P015/E1).
