THREE EGYPTIAN SOLDIERS KILLED IN DISPERSE PROTEST NEAR AL-AZHAR
Cairo, 21 Rajab 1435/20 May 2014 (MINA) – The Egyptian ministry of interior released a statement saying that in the early hours of Tuesday assailants driving a car killed three soldiers and injured a police officer and eight other soldiers in Nasr City in east Cairo.
The police reportedly came under fire by three passengers in a speeding car while attempting to disperse a demonstration by 250 Azhar University student supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi outside the school’s dormitory, Egypt’s daily quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
Attacks on police and army personnel have become frequent across Egypt since the ouster of Morsi last July. At least 500 officers and soldiers have been killed.
Security forces has intervened on a regular basis to disperse anti-government demonstrations on Al-Azhar and other campuses leaving a number of students dead and hundreds arrested.
Chaos has been routine since Morsi was ousted in July 2013 and culminated in the forcibly dispersal of the demonstration known as the Anti-Coup Alliance as well as its own security forces who dispersed the demonstration or the one who explicitly supports Morsi.
About 15 thousand activists and civilians died in the military crackdown in Egypt since last year until today, while Egypt’s interim government announced 500 police and military officers were killed in their duties.
Egyptian security forces authorized by the government to get into campuses without the permission of its dean in an effort to ‘anticipate’ what they called as a ‘threat for country’ since the July coup.
Former Defence Minister who is also presidential of hopefull announced the ousted of Morsi as he is considered unable to meet Egyptian people with the new constitution.
Morsi, Egypt’s first freely elected president was then arrested under military authority, until the next new months was transferred to the general prison along with other leaders and members of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Meanwhile, the oldest university in the Egyptian al-Azhar expelled students actively involved in acts of demonstrations against the government and demanded the return of Morsi. Until now, hundreds of students ‘Dropped Out’ from the campus because of that.(T/P03/P04)
