Discussing Rohingya Crisis Indonesian FM Goes to Myanmar
Jakarta, 6 Rabi’ul Awwal 1438/6 December 2016 (MINA) – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi Tuesday morning (6/12) flew to Myanmar to discuss the crisis of Muslim minorities of Rohingya who are discriminated against in the State of Myanmar.
“I am going to meet Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s State Counselor to discuss the crisis in Rakhine State” Retno said before leaving for Naypyidaw, the capital city of Myanmar this morning. Foreign Ministry official statement as received by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).
The meeting will be held on Tuesday evening is a series of intensive efforts made by Indonesian diplomacy in helping to resolve problem of Muslims in Rakhine state.
Earlier, on Saturday (3/12), Retno also has conducted a telephone conversation with former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, who is currently become the Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the completion problems in Rakhine Rakhine.
The statement said the Indonesian diplomacy has never stopped working, always look at the worsening security situation and casualties in Rakhine after the attack on October 9, 2016.
Intensive communication continues to be done by the Government of Myanmar, both the government in Naypyidaw and the Ambassador of Myanmar in Jakarta.
Indonesia Ambassador to Myanmar is one of seven foreign ambassador and the only ASEAN ambassador who has done visiting to Rakhine on 3-6 November 2016 to look at the situation and get information directly in the field.
Various meetings were also conducted by Indonesian Foreign Ministry with organizations, especially the Indonesian Islamic organizations in order to give help. Communication with various international NGOs also performed by Indonesian government.
