Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian government officially began implementing work from home (WFH) for state civil apparatus (ASN) on April 1, 2026, every Friday, as an effort to achieve energy efficiency amidst global conflicts.
“The implementation of WFH for ASN in central and regional offices, for one working day per week, specifically every Friday, is regulated in a Circular Letter from the Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform and a Circular Letter from the Minister of Home Affairs,” said Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, during a press conference in Seoul, South Korea on Tuesday.
The government is also limiting the use of official vehicles and encouraging the use of public transportation.
“Mobility efficiency includes limiting the use of official vehicles by 50 percent, except for operational needs and electric vehicles, and encouraging the use of public transportation,” Airlangga stated.

Furthermore, the government is also limiting domestic official travel by up to 50 percent and international official travel by up to 70 percent.
However, Airlangga conveyed that this policy does not apply to several sectors that must continue working from the office or in the field, particularly the public service sector and strategic sectors.
Several sectors that are exempt include health services, security, sanitation, production industries, energy, food, transportation, logistics, and the financial sector.
Meanwhile, the education sector, from primary to secondary levels, will continue with normal face-to-face teaching and learning activities five days per week.[]
