DIN SYAMSUDDIN: EGYPTIAN ELITE MUST SOLVE THEIR PROBLEM BY THEMSELVES

         Jakarta, 18 Shawwal 1434 /24 August 2013 (MINA) – Chairman of Muhammadiyah, Din Syamsuddin says Egyptian elite have to solve their problem by themselves regarding the on-going conflict in Egypt.

        “In my opinion, the Egyptian elites, they have to solve their own problems,” said Din Syamsuddin to Mi’raj News Agency reporter on Friday night (23/8) in Jakarta.

         “If it continues, both the Egyptian military and Muslim Brotherhood will harm the nation as a whole.”

         According to Din Syamsuddin, what’s happening in Egypt now is a political problem, where a democratically elected president ousted by the Egyptian army. Which then after a military coup, there were acts of violence carried out by military forces.

          But however, according to the Chairman of the NU (Nahdatul Ulama) and Indonesian Ulema Council Slamet Effendy Yusuf, the conflict in Egypt can not easily be resolved.

          “When in the late forties and early fifties, it was very easy for the military to isolate Muslim Brotherhood. But now, the Muslim Brotherhood is a force that is very widespread in Egypt, ” Slamet said.

           Slamet also explained that the military which is supported by secular and liberal groups, will not be easy to conquer the Muslim Brotherhood. Indeed, it will trigger the Civil War, except there are solutions that make both sides are ready to compromise.

          “The solutions are very difficult. It is impossible for military to restore the Mursi. But without restoring Mursi, the people will continue to fight, ” said the man who was born in Banyumas 1948.

            Slamet called on Indonesian Muslims to pray for Egyptians so that they can solve their problems.

           “The parties that are involved in conflict must be aware that they should not kill each other,” he added.

           Din Syamsuddin urged Muslims to give support particularly on the aspects of humanity without having to enter the ideology of the Egyptian people. “Because there are murders, violence and no justice there right now.” (T/P05/E1).
