DFLP: EGYPT TO HOST RECONCILIANTION MEETING IN FEBRUARY
Gaza City, 2 Rabiul Awwal 1434/14 January 2013 (MINA) – The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine said Sunday that Egypt has agreed to host the PLO for reconciliation talks at the beginning of February, according to Ma’an News Agency report received by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA), Monday.
DFLP official Talal Abu Zarifeh told Ma’an that the meeting will discuss obstacles to reconciliation, and stressed the importance of using proportional representation in presidential and parliamentary elections.
Recent meetings in Cairo between Palestinian factions have been positive and have moved parties closer to implementing an Egyptian-sponsored deal from 2011, he added.
Party leaders President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah and Khaled Mashaal of Hamas met face-to-face in Cairo last Wednesday for the first time in over a year.
Earlier Sunday, independent coalition chief Khalil Assaf said PLO reform and unification of West Bank and Gaza security services were also agreed upon during the Cairo meetings, which he described as the most complex part of reconciliation. (T/R-015/R-006)
