Chinese FM Wang Yi Meets with Indonesian FM Retno Marsudi in Germany

Bonn, 21 Jumadil Awwal 1438/18 February 2017 (MINA) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi on Friday on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting, pledging to promote the development of comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, newscontent.cctv.com reported.

Wang said that Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Hangzhou city, east China’s Zhejiang Province last year and that the two had reached a new important consensus in terms of deepening bilateral relations.

Indonesia is an important country along the “21st century Maritime Silk Road” and the two countries should dovetail development strategies to seek joint development, Wang said, adding that the two countries should jointly promote the construction of a Jakarta-Bandung high speed railway.

Marsudi said that Indonesia is willing to deepen the existing dialogue mechanism to better fit with China’s Maritime Silk Road initiative and further promote quantity and level of cooperation in investment, agriculture and marine sectors.

Wang included that China is willing to accelerate negotiations with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) on the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea on the basis of full implementation of the declaration.

Marsudi also stated that Indonesia welcomes China and ASEAN to actively promote the negotiations regarding the declaration and that Indonesia is willing to maintain communication and consultation with China, enhance marine cooperation and together send out positive signals to the world that the two parties are able to maintain peace and stability of the South China Sea.
