Indonesian Defense Minister Proposes Military MoU with Cambodia

Phnom Penh, 08 Dzulqa’dah 1437/11 August 2016  (MINA) – Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu on Wednesday proposed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on comprehensive defense cooperation with Cambodia, a Cambodian senior official said.

Ryamizard made the request during a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, according to Kao Kim Hourn, minister attached to the prime minister.

“He told the prime minister that Indonesia wanted the bilateral relations in defense sector to be further strengthened and expanded,” Xinhua quoted Kao as telling reporters after the meeting.

For his part, Hun Sen supported the proposed MoU and advised the defense ministries of the two countries to work together to draft the deal.

The prime minister added that he wanted to see the cooperation between the two ASEAN members in fight against terrorism.

He expressed his gratitude to Indonesia for having provided training to Cambodian military personnel, particularly to his bodyguards.

Ryamizard arrived here on Tuesday for a three-day visit to boost military ties between the two countries.

He met with his Cambodian counterpart Gen. Tea Banh on Wednesday morning. (T/R07/R01)
