BOSNIAN NGOS SUPPORT TURKEY’S AID CAMPAIGN FOR SYRIANS

       Sarajevo, 16 Shafar 1434 H/ 29 December 2012 (AA/MINA) – Several Turkish non-governmental organizations have launched “Bread and Blanket for Syria”, a nation-wide aid campaign for civil war-stricken Syrians.

       In the scope of joining into campaign led by Turkey, several NGOs in Bosnia-Herzegovina attended a meeting in Anadolu Agency’s (AA) Regional Office in the Balkans.

      A meeting held in Sarajevo was attended by Ismet Bajramovic, the president of Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Avad Bahto, the vice president of the federation, Hajrudin Sahic, the Chairman of humanitarian society Merhamed, which is the equivalent of Turkish Red Crescent, as well as several other contributors.

      Chairman of Turkish Hak-Is Trade Union Confederation Mahmut Arslan attended meeting via teleconference from Turkish capital Ankara and informed attendees about the campaign.

      Speaking at the meeting, Arslan said that as Turkey attached a great importance to Bosnia-Herzegovina, their contributions would be very significant and meaningful.

      Moreover, Bajramovic said that as they went through the similar tragedy in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1992 until 1995, Bosnian people would be the best ones to understand what Syrians felt.

       He added that the executive board decided to support the campaign and that they were ready to help Syrian victims.

       Sahic said that Turkey’s approach to the issue was really important for them so they would contribute too.

       The campaign will be supported by Bosnia-Herzegovina Islamic Society and NGO Solidarnost Association and Muslim Aid. (T/R-014/R-006)
