AL SISI CLAIMS THE US IS KEEN ON SUPPORTING EGYPT

Cairo, 6 Shafar 1435/9 December 2013 (MINA) – Egypt’s Defence Minister General Abdel Fattah Al Sisi has said that the US administration is keen to continue its financial aid to Egypt but the problem is to legitimise Egypt’s coup.

Al Sisi said in his most recent leaked recording; “The U.S. administration faces a legal problem.

The Americans need to legitimise what has happened and still happening in Egypt according to American law, which challenges resuming their financial assistance to Egypt during these circumstances. We must be clear.

They are keen to continue their financial aid to Egypt.”

Al Sisi claimed that the US administration seeks to legitimise Egypt’s coup by describing it as a change in power based on the popular will, Middle East Monitor (MEMO) report quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA), Monday (9/12).

Al Sisi said in the leaked recording; “The US does not have a legal terminology to describe shifting power by popular will or by a military coup.

Rather they use “natural transfer of power”, which is problematic for the American decision-maker when they need to decide on continuing aid to Egypt”. (T/P012/E1)
