Jeddah, 17 Shawwal 1438/11 July 2017 (MINA) – The Secretary General of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Yousef Bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen congratulated on Monday Iraq on the liberation of Mosul city which was controlled by the so-called Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization, reiterating support for Iraqi government in the war against terrorism.
In a press release, Al-Othaimeen reaffirmed OIC’s commitment to coordination with the Iraqi government to hold Makkah 2 conference as part of efforts to restore security and stability in Iraq.
Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi, flanked by senior military commanders in Mosul, announced victory over IS in Mosul, the last major city liberated from the terrorist group.
Meanwhile, KUNA from Wahington reported that US President Donald Trump congratulated on Monday Iraq on the liberation of Mosul, saying “we in the United States and the Global Coalition are proud to stand with the Iraqi Security Forces and all those who made this moment of liberation possible.”
“We congratulate Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi, the Iraqi Security Forces, and all Iraqis for their victory over terrorists who are the enemies of all civilized people.”
He added “we mourn the thousands of Iraqis brutally killed by (IS) and the millions of Iraqis who suffered at the hands of (IS).”
He affirmed that “tremendous progress” has been made against IS, noting “more in the past 6 months than in the years since (IS) became a major threat.”
“The victory in Mosul, a city where (IS) once proclaimed it’s so-called “caliphate,” signals that its days in Iraq and Syria are numbered.
We will continue to seek the total destruction of (IS),” Trump remarked. (T/RS5/RS1)
