Palestinian Teen Shot Dead in Jerusalem ‘Stabbing Attempt’
Jerusalem, 26 Safar 1438/26 November 2016 (MINA) – A Palestinian teen armed with a knife was shot dead by Israeli security forces after attempting to carry out a stabbing attack at the Shuafat checkpoint northeast of Jerusalem on Friday, a police spokesperson said.
The statement said the assailant had been ‘neutralized’. He was later confirmed dead by police.
Palestinian media identified the assailant as 16-year-old Mohammad Nabil Zidan from the Shu’fat refugee camp, i24news reported.
There were no Israeli injuries reported and the area had been closed off by police.
After months of relative calm, several attacks or attempted attacks by Palestinians against Israelis last month have reignited the violence.
On Tuesday, a 48-year-old Palestinian man was shot and killed after an attempted stabbing attack against an Israeli border police officer near the Qalandia checkpoint in the West Bank.
Since October 2015, 240 Palestinians, 36 Israelis, two Americans, a Jordanian, an Eritrean and a Sudanese have been killed.
Most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, according to Israeli authorities. Others were killed during protests and clashes. (T/R07/R01)
