Fukuoka, MINA – The Iranian men’s national volleyball team secured a spot in the 2027 FIVB World Cup after defeating Australia in the semifinals of the 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship in Japan on Saturday.
Competing at the Kitakyushu City General Gymnasium in Fukuoka Prefecture, the Iranian squad—nicknamed “Team Persia”—bounced back in the third and fourth sets after dropping the second set.
Iran won 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-17, 25-22), thereby qualifying for both the tournament final and the 2027 FIVB World Cup. In the final, Iran will face the winner of the match between Japan and South Korea.
Iranian outside hitter Poriya Hossein (9) and opposite Ali Hajipour (17) were the match’s top scorers, each tallying 20 points.

Australia still has a chance to qualify for the 2027 FIVB World Cup by aiming for a third-place finish in the tournament. []
