Jakarta, MINA – Three Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers who fell during a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon have been posthumously awarded the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal, the highest recognition given by the UN for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of world peace.
The three soldiers are Infantry Captain Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sergeant First Class Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and First Private Farizal Rhomadhon. They lost their lives while carrying out their duties as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in the southern region of Lebanon.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto confirmed that in addition to the UN award, the three soldiers also received posthumous promotions and compensation for their grieving families. The honor is bestowed as a mark of respect for their dedication and sacrifice in carrying out an international humanitarian mission.
The Dag Hammarskjöld Medal is a special award given by the United Nations to military personnel, police officers, and civilians who lose their lives while serving in peacekeeping missions. The medal was first introduced in 1997 and is named after former UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld, who died while on a peacekeeping mission.

The bodies of the three soldiers have been repatriated to Indonesia and were received with full military honors as a final tribute. President Prabowo Subianto also expressed deep condolences and affirmed that the soldiers’ service serves as a symbol of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining world peace.
The loss of the TNI soldiers in the UNIFIL mission underscores the high risks faced by peacekeeping forces in conflict zones. Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Indonesia’s contribution to the UN mission remains vital as part of efforts to uphold global stability and security.[]
