Cairo, MINA – US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that humanitarian assistance has started flowing into the Gaza Strip following the recent ceasefire and prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas.

Humanitarian aid is now pouring in, including hundreds of truckloads of food, medical equipment and other supplies, much of it paid for by people in this room. Civilians are returning to their homes. The hostages are reuniting,” Trump said during a summit with global leaders in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

Calling it “a new and beautiful day,” Trump said that the rebuilding of Gaza would now begin, noting that “rebuilding is maybe going to be the easiest part” after what he described as the hardest stages, achieving the ceasefire and the release of hostages.

He expressed his “tremendous gratitude to the Arab and Muslim nations who helped make this incredible breakthrough possible,” adding that Gaza’s reconstruction must include demilitarization and the establishment of an “honest civilian police force” to ensure long-term security and stability for its residents.

Earlier Monday, Hamas and Israel carried out a prisoner exchange that saw hundreds of Palestinian detainees released from Israel’s Ofer military prison and facilities in the Negev Desert, while all 20 living Israeli hostages were freed from captivity. Trump also said that search efforts were underway to recover the bodies of several hostages who died while being held in Gaza.[]
