Damascus, MINA – The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Saturday expressed support for the United States’p decision to lift sanctions on Syria, describing it as a positive step toward alleviating the country’s humanitarian and economic hardships, Anadolu Agency reported.

In an official statement, the ministry said it is ready to cooperate with all nations based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs. The statement emphasized Syria’s intent to rebuild what was destroyed by the previous regime and to reclaim its rightful position in the region and the international community.

On Friday, the US Treasury Department issued a general license that grants immediate sanctions relief for Syria. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent affirmed that the move fulfills President Donald Trump’s pledge to remove “brutal and crippling” sanctions to support Syria’s path to recovery.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control clarified that the license allows transactions previously banned under the Syrian Sanctions Regulations, thereby opening the door to foreign investment and private sector engagement in Syria. []
