Financial Crisis, Abbas Fires All his Advisers
Ramallah, MINA – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas fired all his advisers amid a financial crisis that engulfed the occupied West Bank and pushed for massive salary cuts.
However, the Palestinian Presidential Office on Monday, August 19 gave no further details about the number of advisers who were dismissed, only pointing to a brief statement issued through the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.
The move comes amid a spending crisis following Israel’s decision in February to hold about $ 10 million a month in tax transfers belonging to Palestinian Authority (PA), Nahar Net reported.
Israel collects about US $190 million a month in customs duties imposed on goods destined for the Palestinian market that transits through its ports. This money should then be transferred to the government. (T/Sj/P2)
