Ramallah, MINA – Israel’s Enforcement and Collection Authority announced on Tuesday that it has seized 149 million shekels from Palestinian Authority (PA) clearance funds to compensate families of Israelis killed or injured in Palestinian attacks.

In a statement, the authority stated that the seized money was allocated to 124 enforcement cases based on Israeli court rulings that approved civil and punitive compensation. The funds were transferred to legal representatives of the Israeli victims’ families.

Israel is currently withholding approximately $4 billion in Palestinian clearance revenues, worsening the financial crisis faced by the Palestinian Authority. Unpaid dues to public and private sector employees have reached $4.26 billion.

The seizure was carried out on grounds that the funds are linked to what Israel terms payments made to Palestinian prisoners. Israel claims these funds are subject to seizure and directly tied to court rulings in cases it describes as hostile acts.

The statement added that the Enforcement Directorate is responsible for collecting amounts ordered by Israeli courts, including compensation related to Palestinian prisoners serving long sentences, whom Israel accuses of carrying out attacks against Israeli targets.[]
