Young Marvelo Wins First Silver for Indonesia

Jakarta, MINA – Nineteen-year-old wushu athlete Edgar Xavier Marvelo became the first Indonesia medalist after securing silver in  the men’s changquan final.

The changquan final took place at JIExpo Sports Hall, Jakarta, at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.

According to asiangames2018.id, Marvelo picked up silver with a score of 9.72, just 0.3 points below the score of gold medalist Peiyuan Sun from China.

Marvelo is proud to win a medal for host country Indonesia.

“Thanks to everyone, including the officials, coaches and friends. Also to my family who has supported and encouraged me so I can win the silver medal,” said Marvelo in tears of joy.

Head coach Noviyanti was delighted with Marvelo’s achievement. “This medal is also dedicated to our country, which just celebrated its 73rd Independence Day,” Novi said.

Another coach, Susyana, said the Indonesia wushu team did not expect Marvelo to get the top spot.

“We didn’t expect him to get a gold medal. The main thing is that he gave a good performance. Apparently, Marvelo can win silver. It is a good achievement considering Marvelo is a rookie athlete,” Susyana said.(L/R04/)
