War Elephants Beat Indonesia 4-2

Bangkok, MINA — Thailand roared back after falling behind early to secure a 4-2 win over Indonesia in their AFF Suzuki Cup Group B match on Saturday night at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Bangkok Post reported.

The victory leaves the defending champions atop group B with six points from two matches.

Indonesia drew first blood after 29 minutes when Zulfiandi Zulfiandi steered a right-footed shot from outside the box to the top left of the Thai net following a corner.

Korrakot Wiriya-Udomsiri replied nine minutes later with a long-range left-footed shot from a difficult angle, also following a corner kick. Pansa Hemviboon, who missed the first match of the tournament due to injury, put the hosts ahead with a shot from close range from a set piece just before halftime.

Adisak Kraisorn, the six-goal hero of this week’s 7-0 rout of Timor Leste, got on the scoresheet 20 minutes into the second half, finding the net from the right side of the box after being set up by Thitipan Puangchan.

Pokkhao Anan picked up a through ball from Sanrawat Dechmitr and made no mistake from outside the box, hitting the net in dead centre on 74 minutes.

Indonesia got a late consolation goal a minute from full time when Fachruddin Wahyudi headed in from the centre of the box following a corner.

Thailand’s next match will be on Wednesday against the Philippines in Bacolod, before they return home to host Singapore the following Sunday.

Indonesia, runners-up at the 2016 tournament, now find themselves facing an uphill struggle with just three points from three matches, having lost their first game to Singapore 1-0 before bouncing back with a 3-1 home victory over Timor Leste. (T/RS5/RS1)
