US STILL CONSIDERS ISRAELI PROPOSAL OVER IRAN NUCLEAR ISSUE

Tel Aviv, 23 Rabiul Akhir 1435/23 February 2014 (MINA) – The US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, Wendy Sherman said it is important for Washington to get Israel’s opinion over nuclear negotiations with Iran.

“Sometimes we agree with Israel and sometimes we don’t but it’s important for us to get input and ideas from Israel,” Sherman told reporters on Saturday. “I work hard to talk with my Israeli counterparts before and after each round of talks with Iran,” she added, Press TV reported as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

The US official arrived in Israel from Vienna on Friday to brief Israeli officials about the latest round of negotiations.

Tehran and six world powers resumed the talks this week to reach a comprehensive agreement. The two sides reached an interim deal in Geneva in November.

“This is a very complex negotiation, and I very much look forward to the talks that I will have here in Israel, which I always do before and after each negotiation to get input, ideas, points of view. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we don’t agree. But what is critical is to have that input as we move forward to ensure the security of Israel, the security of the United States, and the security of the world,” Sherman said.

The top US negotiator was trying to assure Israeli officials about the talks, saying all matters which concern the international community will be on the negotiating table.

“Nothing about this comprehensive agreement is about what we believe, it is about what we see, what can be verified, what can be monitored, what are the concrete actions that will give us and the international community confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran nuclear program and that they will not obtain a nuclear weapon,” she said.

“There is only one measure of success for a comprehensible agreement with Iran and that is if an agreement means that Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon and that the international community will have assurance in the exclusively peaceful nature of a nuclear program in Iran,” she added.

Sherman concluded that all sides are committed to reach a final accord. “We have begun very tough negotiations that will go on through July and we hope to get to a successful end,” she said.

To brief Tel Aviv on the Vienna talks, Sherman will meet with her Israeli counterparts on Sunday. (T/P04/E01)
