US DRONE STRIKE KILL SENIOR TALIBAN AND HAQQANI LEADERS IN PAKISTAN

         Kabul, 2 Zulqa’idah 1434/7 September 2013 (MINA) – According to Pakistani government officials, a US drone strike which targeted a compound in north-west Pakistan, killed at least six mujaheeddins.

         The officials further added, the drones fired two missiles at the house in the village of Darga Mandi in North Waziristan close to the Afghan border, Khaama Press reported as monitored by (MINA) Mi’raj News Agency (6/9). 

         In the meantime, security and military sources of Pakistan said that a senior Taliban-linked commander designated a foreign terrorist by the United States was among those killed in Friday’s attack.

         Security officials also confirmed that those killed were insurgents. The location of the attack is known as a stronghold of the Haqqani network, which regularly attacks U.S. forces in Afghanistan from its mountain hideouts in Pakistan.

         An intelligence official speaking on the condition of anonymity said that Sangeen Zadran, a senior Haqqani commander who also served as the Taliban’s shadow governor of Afghanistan’s Paktika province, was among the dead.

          The foreign ministry of Pakistan condemned the attack and said this was the second strike in a week, and the attacks caused the loss of innocent civilian lives and continued to impact US-Pakistan relations. (T/P012/E1)
