SWEDISH NAVAL PROTEST IN SUPPORT OF LIFTING THE SIEGE ON GAZA
Gaza, 16 Sha’ban 1436/ 3 June 2015 (MINA) – At least 150 participants raised the Palestinian, Turkish and Swedish flags in Malmo’s marina in Sweden in support of lifting the siege on Gaza.
The participants included Palestinians as well as Arab and European supporters who demanded the lifting of the siege on Gaza to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Gaza has struggled with an acute shortage of food, medicines and electricity due to the blockade which has been ongoing since 2007. Middle East Monitor (MEMO) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
Dr Isam Yousef, general coordinator of Miles of Smiles who participated in the event, said: “These events come on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Israeli attack on the Mavi Marmara ship in international waters off Gaza, and in support of the popular international efforts to break the siege on Gaza, especially the third fleet, which prepares to break the blockade and enter Gaza at the end of this month.”
The Swedish marine demonstrations were part of marine demonstrations in the Danish capital Copenhagen, Genoa in Italy and Khartoum in Sudan, in addition to popular sit-ins in Turkey, Algeria and the Netherlands. (T/P002/R03)
