Supreme Court Calls on Muslims to Sight Shawwal Crescent

First and second days of Shawwal 1438 H are expected to be on Sunday and Monday.

 

Riyadh, 29 Ramadan 1438/24 June 2017 (MINA) – The Supreme Court has called on all Muslims in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to sight the crescent of Shawwal month, 1438 AH, on Saturday evening, 29th of the holy month of Ramadan, SPA reported.

The Supreme Court called in its announcement whoever sees the crescent of the month of Shawwal by the naked eyes or binoculars to report to the nearest court and register his testimony, or report to the nearest center to facilitate his reaching to a court.

Moonsighting is a big part of Islam as we follow the lunar calendar.

The Prophet s.a.w. has encouraged us to sight the moon by saying:

“Fast when you see the New Moon. Celebrate Eid when you see it again.” (T/RS5/RS1)
