SALAFIS AND JAMA’A ISLAMIYA PARTY MULL ALIANCE

photographer: Mahmoud Khaled Cairo, 22 Rabiul Akhir 1434/4 March 2013 (MINA) – Leader of the Salafi Nour Party met their counterparts in the Construction and Development Party (the Jama’a Islamiya’s party) to discuss an alliance for the upcoming parliamentary elections, Egypt Independent quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting on Monday.

A source from al Jama’a Islamiya who requested anonymity told Egypt Independent the political leaders also discussed ways for the Muslim Brotherhood and Nour Party to reconcile.

The source said the alliance would be in Upper Egyptian governorates as well as Suez and Ismailia, and that the Nour Party insisted on excluding Salafi Sheikh Hazem Salah Abu Ismail’s Raya Party, the Salafi Watan Party, and the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) from the alliance.

In the Egyptian Parliamentary Elections 2011-2012, FJP won 47.2 percent of all seats, followed by the next Islamic parties Nour and Wasat Party won 24.7 and 2 percent, respectively. The Parties, FJP and Nour, denied the alleged intention of coalition politics.

Nur party is Salafi political party formed since Mubarak setback. The new leader of this party Mikhion Younis insists it will not form a coalition with the Muslim Brotherhood in the upcoming parliamentary elections, saying it was ‘useless’.

While the FJP party is the strongest party in Egypt. It has close links with the Muslim Brotherhood. Since 2011, Mursi served as chairman in the party that was built after the setback of Mubarak. (T/P03/E1)
