RETNO AND LAVROV REVIEW DEVELOPMENTS IN PERSIAN GULF AREA

Moskow, 26 Rabiul Awwal 1437/6 January 2016 (MINA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov received a telephone call on Tuesday from Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

During the telephone conversation, they discussed means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in various fields, and reviewed the developments in the Persian Gulf area, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) quoted TASS as reporting.

Disagreements in the Persian Gulf area should be settled in a peaceful way. Such an opinion was expressed by Lavrov and Retno Marsudi during their telephone conversation, Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“The parties expressed opinions regarding the ways towards de-escalation of recently emerged tension in the Persian Gulf area. Confidence was expressed that existing disagreements should be overcome through a dialog,” the Ministry said.

Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed Jakarta’s interest in cooperating with Russia for the purpose of
preventing the split in the Islamic world, the Russian diplomatic authority said.

The ministers spoke in favor of more active engagement of the potential of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in settling the existing situation, Russian Foreign Ministry said. (T/R07/R03)
