RAFAH CROSSING TO OPEN 3 DAYS FOR PILGRIMS

Gaza City, 6 Jumadil Akhir 1435/6 April 2014 (MINA)- Egyptian authorities informed Palestinian side that Rafah crossing will be opned for three days for pilgrims only, Maher Abu Sabha said Saturday.

Gaza border crossing offical said that the  crossing would open Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday for Umrah pilgrims only and will not include humanitarian cases.

Rafah will allow 760 Umrah pilgrims to exit Gaza on Sunday and Monday, and on Tuesday will allow pilgrims who have already completed the pilgrimage to return to the Strip, ALRAY, Palestinian Media Agency quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

There have been frequent closures of the Rafah terminal in recent months due to political unrest in Egypt and violence in the Sinai peninsula, placing an added burden on Gaza Strip residents.

After the July military coup against the  elected president Mohamed Morsi, Egypt’s army has repeatedly closed the Rafah border crossing and destroyed hundreds of tunnels that Gazans used for years to import fuel, building materials, and other goods.

Egyptian authorities opened last Saturday Rafah crossing for three days after the closure lasted for 49 days in a raw.(T/P02/E01)
