President Duterte’s Next Stop is Malaysia

Davao City, 29 Muhaarram 1438/30 October 2016 (MINA) – After China, Brunei and Japan, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is now preparing for a state visit to Malaysia to talk about ways to end piracy along the Strait of Malacca, a maritime area that borders four states, Philippine Daily Inquirer reported on Saturday.

The president, who continues to rail against the United States and other critics of his bloody war on drugs, said he will complete his tour with a visit to Malaysia, one of the countries “that matter to me.”

Duterte said he is looking forward to his talk with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and again with Indonesian President Joko Widodo to fight attacks around around the Malacca Strait, the new piracy hotspot.

Duterte hinted he will adopt a hardline stance in dealing with piracy similar to the way he has been dealing with illegal drugs.

Duterte said he hopes to discuss with Malaysia its standards of justice.

“I have to talk to Malaysia, I don’t know their standard of justice but Indonesia and Philippines, more or less we’re hardliner.” (T/R07/R01)
