OIC CHIEF DISCUSSES ROHINGYA PROBLEM WITH EGYPTIAN FM

Cairo, 21 Dhul Hijja 1433/ 6 November 2012 (IINA/MINA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamad Kamel Amru at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Cairo yesterday.

They discussed bilateral relations between the OIC and Egypt as well as a number of regional issues, mainly the situation in Syria.

The leaders also exchanged views on the violent actions being perpetrated against the Muslim Rohingya minority in the province of Arakan in Myanmar. They discussed effective moves to deal positively with this issue, particularly at the level of international forums.

The talks also figured necessary arrangements for convening the 20^th Islamic summit scheduled to be held in February, 2013 in Egypt along with the ongoing preparations for the OIC Foreign Ministers meeting, due to be convened in Djibouti on November 15-17.

OIC Secretary General also met with Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Egyptian Minister of State of Antiquities, and discussed with him possible activities and projects that could be undertaken by the two parties for the protection of Islamic heritage and antiquities in the OIC Member states.

These meetings took place within the framework of the OIC secretary general’s current visit to Cairo during which he is scheduled to meet with the Egyptian president and prime minister. (J-001).
