IHH CALLS FOR NGOs TO PLAY ACTIVE ROLE ON HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

          Istanbul , 13 Safar 1435 / 16 December 2013 (MINA) – The Chairman of the Humanitarian Aid Foundation (IHH), Bulent Yildirim stated Non Governmental  Organizations (NGOs) should play an active role in helping humanitarian crisis especially in Middle East countries.

         “Humanitarian crisis occur everywhere. People  lost their homes, Children lost their parents. They were displaced. We can take a look at Syria, Palestine and other Islamic Countries,” Yildirim told MINA (Mi’raj News Agency)’s reporter, Nur Ikhwan Abadi during OIC conference in Istanbul Sunday (15/12).

         Meanwhile, the Secretary General of OIC, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said this Conference has a very important role to solve humanitarian crisis especially in Islamic world.

        “When Tsunami hit Aceh in Indonesia,  OIC could not do anything because no department deal with this case. In 2008, OIC held NGOs meeting in Dakar, Senegal  and decided to establish humanitarian crisis department,” said Ekmeleddin.

        IHH President is also preparing an action to break Israeli blockade on Gaza Strip by Mavi Marmara II.

        ” We are going to open the blockade of Gaza Strip which has been under Israeli occupation control, although we have to sail further, “Yildirim said.

          He also invited all the elements, NGOs, and international community to participate the action to break out the blockade. “Can you sleep calmly while our brothers in Gaza are suffering due to the blockade? We have to break the blockade,” he said.

         In 2010 , IHH pioneered the humanitarian activists to break Gaza blockade through Mediteranian sea by Mavi Marmara. Nine Turkish activists killed and shot by Israeli soldiers raids, and dozens more wounded. There were also two Indonesian activists were shot and wounded in the tragedy.

         Director General of the Foreign Relations Gaza Health Ministry, Muhammad al-Kasyif in his speech at the conference said, from January to June 2013, There are 63 group of activists  visited Gaza Strip, while in July to December, Three are just six entourages entered Gaza.

        “It proves that Gaza has been completely blockaded,” he added, “People’s health condition is getting worse, especially cancer, with limited drugs, due to the blockade”.

       “Every year, there are approximately 7,500 cancer cases in Gaza, 50 percent of which are in severe conditions. It happened after the Israeli attacks in 2009. Doctors said it was the impact of certain chemical weapons used by Israel during the attack,” he said.

       Renal failure also become the main serious desease in Gaza besides cancer, as many as 500 Gazans people got the desease every year.

       “As a result of the Israeli attack, there are 150,000 Gazans who need surgery treatment,”  he stressed. 

       Recently, Gaza hit by floods, especially in Dier Balah area. Thousands of homes were  sank while the winter which comes sooner than usual.

       About 1,8 million Gaza residents are suffering. They really need international community acts, especially Muslims. Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh called on the world to help Gazan people who are facing floods and winter. ( L/P04/NIA/P03) .
