MUI : Caliphate Not Suitable in Indonesia

MUI Chairman KH Ma’ruf Amin says wealth is not only rich people’s property but can be enjoyed by most people.

Jakarta, 26 Rajab 1438/23 April 2017 (MINA) – Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) KH Maruf Amin said Indonesia is a republic and khilafah (caliphate) is not suitable in the country.

“Indonesia adopts and agrees with system of republic as a national pillar. We no longer need to talk about khilafah,” Antara News reported, citing Maruf Amin after he open the Muslim Economic Congress 2017 here on Saturday .

He said Indonesian leaders from any religious sects already agreed with the existing system and the rise of new system would only trigger new instability.

“Agreement is already reached. This noise about khilafah is caused by a new group that wants other system,” Maruf Amin said commenting on plan to hold “International Khilafah Forum” in Jakarta.

Earlier the Jakarta police has stressed it would not allow Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) to convene an “International Khilafah Forum” in the capital city.

“In principle, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police would not give the permit. Until now there is no permit,” Jakarta police spokesman Sr. Comr Argo Yuwono said here on Saturday.

Argo said police had analyzed and evaluated potential impact of the forum and decided not to give the permit.

He said the Jakarta police intelligence had data about the forum, but he did elaborate.

The management of the Az zikra Mosque in Bogor Adi Pratama confirmed the plan to hold International Khilafah Forum by Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) at the Az zikra Mosque in Bogor failed on permit being not granted by the authority. (T/RS5/RS1)
