MUI Appreciates the Police for Cancelling the 2018 Miss Gaya Dewata

Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has given the highest appreciation to the Indonesian National Police for canceling the planned Grand Final Mister and Miss Gays Dewata 2018 in Bali.

Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi made the remarks in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday (11/10), “The lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) beauty contest was finally canceled”.

The MUI hopes that the ban will be applied in all regions in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). The MUI is concerned about the growing activity of LGBT groups who have boldly and openly demonstrated their existence.

“This is an indicator that the number and activities of non-heterosexuals or homosexuality in Indonesia are very worrying.

At the same time, it shows that the homosexual problem cannot be considered a simple problem anymore, and needs to get really serious attention from all parties, especially from the government, religious leaders and the community, “said Zainut.

He revealed that the practice of LGBT and free sex must be prohibited because it is contrary to religious values and Pancasila.

Non-heterosexual orientation is not something that is justified in Islamic teachings. The MUI has issued a fatwa in 2014, about LBGT being unlawful or prohibited by religion.

“All religions also prohibit LGBT actions or behavior and rejection of LGBT has even become a mutual agreement in positive law in Indonesia,” he said.

Positive legal norms in Indonesia do not legalize LGBT.  The Marriage Law states, the marriage is valid if it is done by those of different sexes according to religious teachings.

Religious leaders should increasingly enlighten their people about the importance of living with healthy and responsible sexual behavior in accordance with religious teachings.

“I believe all religions teach their followers to have healthy and responsible sexual behavior,” Zainut concluded. (T/Sj/rs5)
