Mogherini : EU, Arab League Share Same Position on Jerusalem

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

Brussels, 07 Rajab 1438/04 April 2017 (MINA) – The European Union (EU) High Representative Federica Mogherini on Monday stressed once again that the 28-member bloc will not move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Al-Quds (Jerusalem).

“Our position is the same as the one of Arab League which is of the international community. EU and its member states will not move their embassies to Jerusalem and we discourage any kind of decision that goes in that direction,” KUNA quoted Mogherini as telling reporters in a joint press briefing with the Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmad Aboul-Gheit in Luxembourg.

Referring to the Palestine cause, Mogheirni said: “We share the same approach, that is a two-state solution, negotiations between the parties and in particular within the framework of the Arab Peace Initiative which we consider the most useful basis for advancing in this respect.”

The EU foreign policy chief noted that she attended the 28th Arab League Summit in Jordan and highlighted the “excellent cooperation” between EU and Arab League.

On his part, Aboul-Gheit said he would be informing the EU Foreign Affairs Council about the resolutions made by the last week Jordan’s summit and the willingness of the Arab World to enhance cooperation with the bloc.
