MISS WORLD CONTEST STILL GOES ON DESPITE SO MANY PROTESTS

        Bandar Lampung, 8 Dhul Qa’idah 1434/14 September 2013 (MINA) – Indonesian government gives permission for Miss World 2013 contest in Nusa Dua, Bali despite there are so many pressures and protests from the Muslim community,

        “Indonesian government should revoke the permit of Miss World contest in Indonesia,” one of Muslim leaders in Lampung, Faiz Akbar told Miraj News Agency (MINA) in the sidelines of protest against Miss World which was held in Bandar Lampung, Friday (13/9).

        Approximately 300 protesters took part in a demonstrations demanding the dissolution of Miss World contest at Tugu Gajah, Bandar Lampung.

        “The government should not allow Miss World contest to be held in Indonesia. It is a prove that the government is more concerned to media company like MNC than Muslim majority in Indonesia,” said Faiz.

         Earlier this month Muslim organizations in various places urged cancellation of the Miss World contest in Indonesia. MUI issued a fatwa that this contest is haram. Even the Minister of Religious Affairs, Suryadharma Ali has also urged the organizers to cancel the event based on MUI fatwa.

        Previously, Andi Nurhayati who is a former Franchise Holder of Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss Asia, Miss International and Miss World also disclosed it as no more than a showcase genitalia. (T/P05/E1).
