JEWISH EXTREMISTS STORM AL-AQSA COMPOUND
Al-Quds (Jerusalem), 30 Jumadil Awwal 1435/31 March 2014 (MINA) – As many as 19 extremist Jewish settlers on Sunday stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under the protection of the Israeli police, a Palestinian guard of the holy complex said.
The extremists stormed the holy compound through Al-Magharbeh Gate and exited through the Chain Gate under the guard of Israeli police officers, mosque guard Naser Qoues confirmed to Anadolu Agency quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
“Palestinian religious students stood their ground in the holy site and shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ in defiance against the extremists who were under the protection of the Israeli police,” he added. Yet, no incident has been reported.
In recent months, groups of extremist Jewish settlers – often accompanied by Israeli security forces – have repeatedly entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in Al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem). The frequent violations anger Palestinian Muslims and occasionally lead to violent confrontations.
For Muslims, Al-Aqsa represents the world’s third holiest site.
Jews refer to the area as the “Temple Mount,” claiming it was the site of two prominent Jewish temples in ancient times.
Israel occupied Al-Quds during the 1967 Middle East War. It later annexed the holy city in 1980, claiming it as the capital of the self-proclaimed Jewish state.(T/P02/P04)
