JAPAN TO TAKE FOUR SPESIFIC ACTIONS ON THE PALESTINE ISSUE

Jakarta, 29 Rabi’ul Akhir 1435/1 March  2014 (MINA) –  The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Fumio Kishida state that his country plans to take four specific action based on discussions held so far at Conference Among East Asian Countries For Palestinian Development (CEAPAD).

‘’From discussion to action, CEAPAD is moving up to the next stage one year after its birth,’’ the minister said at the opening of CEAPAD II held in Jakarta on Saturday (1/3).

Firstly, he said, Japan will extend the assistance totaling approximately 200 million dollars which will be started as early as this month with the disbursement of an aid package of some 62 million US dollars including  30 million US dollars for financial assistance to the Palestinian governing body and infrastructure support of about 20 million US dollars.

Secondly, he goes on saying, Japan will support the training about 1,000 Palestinians over five years, including new trilateral cooperation involving Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

The third, Japan will launch a mechanism that makes use of a fund to be established  in the Islamic  Development Bank, through cooperation from the Japan Internasional Coopeartion Agency (JICA) aiming at further promoting support for human resources development in countries participating in CEAPAD.

Lastly, Japan will extend about 6,2 million dollars in infrastructure aid to accelerate work to start production in the Jericho Agricultural Industrial Park (JAIP) which is established for economic independence of Palestine involving Israel, Palestine, and Jordan under the JAIP flagship.

Kishida also stressed out Japan stance on Palestinian state-building and ‘two-state’ solution between both parties.

He also said  Japan support for  Palestine, includes a total aid of 1,38 billion US dollars for Palestinians since the 1993 Oslo Accord.

In 2012, Japan also voted in favor of the United Nations General Assembly resolution to grant non-member observer state status to Palestine.(L/P03/P04/E01)
