ISRAELI VIOLATIONS AGAINST MEDIA FREEDOM ESCALATE

Occupied West Bank, 3 Jumadil Awwal 1435/4 March 2014 (MINA) – MADA’s Report about the violations against journalists in Palestine stated that last February witnessed a serious escalation of violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) against journalists in the occupied Palestine.

Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) said in a press release: “ the violations embodied by attacking journalists, preventing them from covering events, and arresting some.”

The report pointed out that most violations were against journalists during covering various activities of the popular resistance in Ein Hejleh village near the West Bank city of Jericho.

The center monitored violations in each of al-Aroub refugee camp, north of Hebron, and Jerusalem during demolishing Palestinian citizens’ houses,  ALRAY, Palestinian Media Agency quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Tuesday.

The center reported that the most serious violation during the last month was the severe beating of a freelance photographer, Yousef  Shakarna, in Wadi Fokinin Bethlehem, causing him wounds and bruises on various parts of his body .

Israeli soldiers pushed Palestine TV cameraman Fadi Jayyousi from the roof of a room in Ein Hejla, near the city of Jericho, which led to fractures in the back and legs, as well as assaulting Palmedia photographer Abdul Ghani Natsheh severely wounding him in the eye, the center added.

The center condemned all violations against journalists calling the international community to pressure on the occupation forces to protect Palestinian journalists who suffered serious injuries during coverage of events in the cities of the occupied West Bank. (T/E01/IR)
